Marimba – Blue and Gold Macaw

Description

Marimba is a blue and gold macaw who is a permanent resident of TGF along with his best friend Rex. His feathers are particularly lustrous and shine brightly in the sun. Unfortunately, Marimba and Rex came from a neglectful situation and was never habituated to people, so he remains reluctant to interact with his human caretakers. It can be difficult to get him outside, but he is making slow progress towards stepping up more easily for our staff. He can be aggressive with other birds, so he and Rex get their own private flight from which to enjoy some fresh air on days they spend outside.

Marimba enjoys toys; or more accurately enjoys chewing through ropes stringing them together, undoing quicklinks so they fall to the cage floor, and generally making things difficult wherever he can. Fortunately, we have some well designed toy skewers that we use in their cage so we can keep the toys where they are supposed to be so that Rex can play with them while Marimba tries to cause mayhem elsewhere. He is quite good at breaking out of, or just breaking, his cage so he can go chew on his favorite toy ever- the wall!
