There is a difference between a medical necessary beak revision and minimal beak shaping or adjustment. If TGF staff is not comfortable grooming your bird’s beak, we will recommend that you take your bird to a veterinarian with a special interest in avian medicine. Any concerns or unusual beak growth that is observed by TGF staff will be documented in writing and a photograph.

The Gabriel Foundation grooming staff is able to: Moderate/limited reshaping of overgrown beaks, clean up/smooth overgrown keratin on beak, smooth a small chip or crack but this is 100% dependent on each bird and its beak. The Gabriel Foundation will NOT groom any bird’s beak if requested when the bird appears ill, if there is traumatic injury, or the beak appears to be abnormal; The Gabriel Foundation will NOT groom a bird’s peak to prevent biting, to prevent feather picking, self-mutilation or other destructive behaviors, or if in our experience that for medical, stress of other reasons that the bird must be evaluated by a veterinarian with a special interest in avian medicine.

 

The Gabriel Foundation will not provide a “vanity,” “beauty,” or “show” wing trim. All wing trims are consistent with AAV recommended guidelines.
