Description
Polly is a blue and gold macaw who is a sanctuary resident. His cage is easily told apart from others because he is always in possession of an extra large box (or two!) that he spends much of his time playing with. Many other birds enjoy a good box, but few can claim to love them quite as much as he does.
Polly tolerates people but is not very interested in interacting with his caretakers… unless they are offering to take him outside! He steps up with great excitement onto a towel for his day trips to our spacious flights. There he will usually relax on a perch with his friend Stevie, who is a scarlet macaw.
After a long day of leisure, he will have a good burst of energy to let out by screaming for his dinner. Once he is fed he quiets down and gets back to the hard work of modifying his box into the perfect work of art. It is a never-ending process, since we throw each one out at the start of the week, and he has to start all over again. Luckily he does not seem to be running out of artistic creativity any time soon!
