Rainy – Catalina Macaw

Description

Rainy is a huge Catalina Macaw who arrived at TGF in early November 2019 in dire need of a bath.  His feathers turned out absolutely beautiful after a thorough soak, and he quickly began to open up in his new environment.  He enjoys his space in the center of the main lobby where he is pampered with attention from everyone who walks in.

Rainy has a big appetite and adores a variety of treats.  Like all macaws he accepts nuts, but he is also partial to fruits and the occasional human snack.  He can chow down on a banana in record time compared to any other macaw on site.  He would make an excellent learner for anyone who wants to train with him.

Rainy steps up onto a bare hand for some people, and is easily encouraged with the promise of food.  He has been going outside to enjoy some sunshine when the weather is warm, but we have not tried to introduce him to the flights with our flock yet.  When he is inside he likes to chip away at his toys, vocalize with the other loud macaws, or do a silly dance.  When the staff are out of sight he can get chatty and start going through his repertoire of human words, which have been hard to decipher from afar.  In the presence of humans, he easily says “hi,” and “hello,” and will blow you a huge wet kiss when he is feeling particularly excited.  We have also been treated to his extremely loud and convincing cat meows.
