Memorials & Tributes

Responsibility Lasts a Lifetime

For Gabriel, and all the others that we have so dearly loved…

“I’ll lend you, for a little while, a bird of mine,” He said.
“For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or maybe twenty-three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, as all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this bird to learn.
I’ve looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love – not think this labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take him back again.
I fancied that I heard them say, ‘Dear Lord, thy will be done.’
For all the joy this bird shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shower him with tenderness and love while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay.
And should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.”

Memorial Garden Donation Opportunities

Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye to a beloved companion bird or animal friend is saying goodbye to a shared life history. With time, the joy shared by the human/animal bond provide comfort and lifetime memories.

When a memorial donation is made to The Gabriel Foundation to honor the life and loss of a companion bird’s passing, the lives of the birds under our wing are enriched. A donation can be made securely online at our Online Donation Form. In the comments section, please provide information about the person and the bird for whom the donation is made. Please include the person’s name and contact information, bird name and species (if desired) and we will send a tribute card to let them know that a donation was made in honor of their bird/human bond, and by whom it was made. Please indicate whether or not the amount of the donation should be included.

The Gabriel Foundation will provide the donor an acknowledgement donation receipt for tax purposes.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
