2008 SUMMER TOUR SCHEDULE

(June 1 through August 31)

Tours by appointment only, please

Wednesdays 10:30 AM

Saturdays 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM

Sunday 1:00 PM

Tour fees: $10/adult; $5 children 12 and under. Please allow 90 minutes for your tour.Your tour fee helps us to offset the cost of operating an aviary 24/7 and providing the best in care for our avian residents. The fee does not apply to any bird adoption fee or to the Adoption Application fee.

In order to provide you with a comprehensive tour of TGF's Aviary and Adoption Center, a TGF Staff member or volunteer will personally guide you around our aviary to provide you an overview of TGF's operations, our birds and our programs and answer your questions. You will have time to watch a specially selected program on our widescreen monitor during your scheduled tour thanks to a donation from Sharp USA. This tour is not designed for you to "play with our birds" although you will have a chance to get  up close and personal with one or two of our avian ambassadors.

Please note that by their very nature that parrots can be loud! Earplugs will be provided upon request. Children under 5 years old may be startled by the birds' noise. All children must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times.

The aviary is located in Elizabeth, CO at an altitude of nearly 6800'. We're on the high plains and weather can change at a moment's notice. Please bring appropriate clothing. The terrain surrounding the aviary is landscaped but remains natural - concrete and rock walkways surround our aviaries so wear comfortable shoes. Cold beverages are available for purchase on site although you are welcome to bring your own. Make it a day and bring a picnic lunch with you and sit outside in our Memorial Garden. Restaurants are located in nearby Elizabeth and the Town of Parker.

If you are in the active adoption process, you will need to schedule a specific time with TGF staff to arrange time to meet and interact with some of TGF's birds.  Thank you for your support and interest in The Gabriel Foundation. We look forward to seeing you soon.

ABOUT THE AVIARY & ADOPTION CENTER

Expanding our space from 8,500 sq. ft. to 40,000 sq. ft., the new Aviary and Adoption Center in Elizabeth, CO is designed with the total welfare of our feathered friends in mind. The initial plans featured three different buildings to house our resident birds in bright, spacious species-specific rooms with radiant heat and Venta Airwashers to ensure a warm, high humidity climate. As construction progressed, we quickly realized the need for a fourth building dedicated specifically to our Rescue program. Current plans now include Building D to serve primarily as The Gabriel Foundation's Rescue Ranch, for birds in dire need of rescue and rehabilitation.

Throughout the complex, each species room has its own attached outdoor flight that provides year-round access to spacious, predator-proof flights where our birds can cavort with members of their own species in the great outdoors. Felled trees, branches, rocks and boulders, rope swings and toys of all kinds encourage chewing, foraging, and play.

The facilities and services include an onsite veterinary clinic, two isolated quarantine rooms, an adoption room and visitor reception area, a training center and "flight" school play area, five stand-alone flights for expanded flight space, large kitchen and food preparation areas, boarding and day care, and living quarters that guarantee permanent, 24-hour onsite care of the TGF flock.

The additional space means TGF will provide quality care for 350 birds each day and will always have room to take 150 birds in urgent need into our Rescue program. The Aviary and Adoption Center will serve as a permanent home for homeless parrots in need of Sanctuary as well as a gateway to a new life for birds in our Adoption program.
